The service will use a team of volunteer shoppers to help local people who are socially isolated.
The project is being managed by Volunteer Centre Sefton - part of Sefton Council for Voluntary Service - in partnership with Waitrose. It is being funded by NHS Sefton and Sefton Council’s Health and Social Care Directorate.
Speaking at the launch Sefton CVS Deputy Chief Executive, Nigel Bellamy, said:
“We’re delighted that this service is now up and running in Formby and very grateful
to our partners and funders for helping to make it happen.
“We already run a similar service in Southport and this has made a big difference to
the lives of the older people who use it. I’m sure the Formby service will prove to be
equally successful.”

The Formby Shopping Service also issued an appeal for volunteers at the launch. Project Manager, Jan Hughes, explained: “We’re expecting a lot of calls from people who need help with their shopping because they are unable to do it themselves.
“That’s why we are in real need of volunteer shoppers who can spare part of one morning each week to offer a helping hand. All expenses are paid, and their support will mean so much to the older Formby residents who use our service".
