Who we are and what services we offer to volunteer-involving organisations

Volunteer Centre Sefton promotes, supports and develops volunteering in the borough of Sefton and offers a range of services to both volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations in the voluntary, community, faith and statutory sectors.

For volunteer-involving organisations:

  • Opportunities to promote your volunteer vacancies to potential volunteers

By filling in an organisation registration form, you can register as many different volunteering opportunities with us as you like. We upload these opportunities (1) onto our local database, which volunteers have access to during one-to-one interviews at our offices, and (2) onto www.do-it.org.uk, the National Database of Volunteering Opportunities, which anyone can access via the Internet.

We also e-mail volunteers regularly to inform them of new or urgent volunteering vacancies and also advertise a selection on our website,

  • A brokerage service

We offer volunteers a one-to-one interview, matching their skills, needs and interests to the opportunities available and refer interested volunteers on to the relevant volunteer-involving organisations

  • Information, advice and guidance

For organisations offering, or wishing to develop, volunteer opportunities, we can provide one-to-one advice and guidance regarding a number of issues such as volunteer recruitment, managing volunteers, policies and procedures, monitoring and evaluation.

We also have a range of publications which can support organisations that can be accessed either via our website or sent out as a hard copy. These include:

  • Managing & Supporting Volunteers - Good Practice Guidelines
  • Writing Volunteer Opportunities for the Internet
  • Guidelines for Preparing & Writing Press Releases
  • Organising Residential Events Guidelines
  • Volunteer Handbook (hard copy only)

Volunteer Co-ordinators’ Forums

Quarterly meetings between Volunteer Centre staff and Volunteer Co-ordinators/ Managers which are an opportunity to:

  • Enable organisations to meet, network and discuss a range of relevant issues
  • Share and develop best practice in volunteer recruitment & management
  • Respond to local, regional and national volunteering strategies
  • Promote and improve positive relationships between local organisations
  • Find out about the latest information/ issues regarding volunteering
  • Provide guidance and direction for the work of Volunteer Centre Sefton

Volunteer Certificate Scheme

Organisations can sign up to VC Sefton’s Volunteer Certificate Scheme which recognises the commitment and achievements of volunteers in the community. Certificates are signed by the Mayor of Sefton and are awarded to highlight 100, 200, 500 or 1000 hours of volunteering for an organisation. The 'Outstanding Achievement Award' recognises those volunteers who have donated over 2000 voluntary hours. There is an awards afternoon each June during Volunteers’ Week, but organisations (and volunteers) can access this service all year round.

  • Quarterly news bulletins

Which can be sent out either as a hard copy or e-mail version or accessed via the website and contain a wide range of information relevant to local voluntary, community, faith and statutory sector (VCFS) organisations who manage and involve volunteers in their work.

  • Regular e-mails

Detailing information relevant to volunteering, both locally and nationally, such as funding opportunities, training, new legislation and news of interest.
